A few weeks ago the bf decided to make a fancy cocktail for a party we were having. I don’t remember the exact details but I know it involved pink peppercorns and star anise which I was tasked with finding. Did I mention I had about 45 minutes to accomplish this feat? I felt like that guy on Dinner Impossible. Well it turns out I couldn’t find them at any of the 4 grocery/chi chi boutique type stores I went to. The cocktail was canceled. The party was lovely regardless.
This past Saturday we were out doing some shopping and noticed that the Spice Trader and Olive Pit store had relocated to it’s new digs on Queen West near Trinity Bellwoods Park. It also turns out the owner of this store is the bf’s “cousin” (I use quotes because many divorces are involved and I’m not sure cousin is the right word).
Needless to say they had exactly what I was looking for and many other very intriguing ingredients that I’d love to have a reason to use! Or experience at someone’s house at a nice dinner party. Just saying.
They also sell Adrienne Clarkson’s olive oil from her grove in France at $45 a bottle. Yes we got one (if you know the bf you are not surprised by this) but I couldn’t tell you if it was worth it or not.
The Spice Trader and Olive Pit is located at 877 Queen Street West beside Type Books and Chippy’s Fish and Chips (more on that later).
